Job Description
Position Summary:
The Wireman is responsible for the installation, connection, testing, and maintenance of electrical wiring and systems. They work according to blueprints, electrical codes, and safety regulations to ensure proper functioning of electrical components.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and connect electrical wiring, fixtures, control devices, and related components in accordance with blueprints and electrical codes.
- Read and interpret technical diagrams and blueprints.
- Troubleshoot electrical problems and repair or replace wiring and electrical components as needed.
- Ensure all work complies with local and national electrical codes.
- Use testing equipment like voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters to check the integrity of wiring and circuit performance.
- Maintain tools and equipment in good working order.
- Work independently or as part of a team to complete projects on time.
- Ensure all work is performed safely, using appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment).
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC).
- Ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics.
- Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Physically fit, with the ability to lift heavy materials and work in confined spaces.
Types of Work:
Wiremen may specialize in different areas:
- Residential Wireman: Works on houses, apartments, and residential buildings.
- Commercial Wireman: Installs systems in offices, shopping centers, etc.
- Industrial Wireman: Handles electrical systems in factories and manufacturing plants.
Work Environment:
- Can work indoors and outdoors.
- May need to work at heights, in cramped spaces, or in various weather conditions.
- May involve overtime or weekend work depending on project deadlines.
