Job Title: Dual Technician
Overall, Purpose of the Job:
The Fire Protection Technician is responsible for the installation, servicing, and maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment. This includes but is not limited to fire detection systems, gas suppression systems, and fire equipment such as extinguishers, hose reels, and hydrants. The role requires adherence to applicable standards such as SANS 1475, SANS 10139, and compliance with FDIA and SAQCC registration requirements. The ideal candidate will be experienced in both small and large-scale projects, covering installation, fault-finding, testing, commissioning, and compliance.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
Installation & Service
- Install and service fire detection, suppression, and portable fire equipment in line with SANS and FDIA standards.
- Ensure work is neat, correct, and completed within the quoted timeframes.
- Identify and report any required design deviations or site-based changes to project or sales teams.
- Carry out fault finding, testing, and functional verification on fire systems and equipment.
- Ensure work aligns with commissioning plans and all deliverables are met on time.
Project Management Support
- Monitor daily site activities and update the Project Manager and client accordingly.
- Adjust on-site activities as per project plan updates to meet deadlines and client requirements.
- Maintain daily records, job cards, and commissioning documentation for handover.
- Ensure proper documentation of test results and maintenance reports.
Compliance & Quality
- Adhere to Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) plans and project-specific standards.
- Maintain quality of workmanship to meet required compliance and specifications.
- Ensure that all installations and services comply with SANS, FDIA, and SAQCC guidelines.
Stock & Tools
- Check and manage vehicle and site stock before deployment and during project execution.
- Report any material shortfalls in advance to allow time for procurement.
- Maintain control over tools and ensure proper usage by any assigned assistants.
Teamwork & Client Interaction
- Collaborate effectively with commissioning engineers, project managers, and sales teams.
- Manage and guide assistants or junior technicians when required.
- Maintain strong relationships with commercial clients and represent the company professionally on site.
Other
- Submit job cards and reports timeously upon completion of work.
- Willingness to work overtime when needed.
- Travel locally and internationally when required.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar fire protection systems and equipment installation/service role.
- SAQCC registered (minimum L3 Serviceman & Installer for fire systems; 1475 technician for fire equipment).
- Proven knowledge and working experience with:
- Fire Detection Systems (e.g., conventional, addressable systems)
- Gas Suppression Systems
- Portable Fire Equipment (e.g., extinguishers, hose reels)
- Strong knowledge of SANS 1475, SANS 10139, and related standards.
- Experience in fire risk assessments, audits, and inspections.
- Computer literacy (MS Office Suite).
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transport.
- Valid passport and willingness to travel within South Africa, Sub-Saharan Africa, and internationally.
